I bought 4mm sized earrings, which complemented most of my everyday office and casual wear. I could get away wearing this even for an evening accessory, as black usually suits everything.

I feel anything bigger than 5mm can be too much unless you really want to make a statement. If you want something for everyday use, I suggest going for a 4 or 5mm sized one. A 3 or 4mm size could be excellent for secondary earing.
